GB News Economics and Business Editor Liam Halligan said: “We have had so many emails, tweets and letters from viewers and listeners of GB News that they are sick and tired that they can’t use cash anymore.
“It takes business money to handle cash and if we lose less money then that means there’s more of what’s called surveillance capitalism where banks can follow your spending patterns, internet companies can follow your spending patterns and of course that data can be sold to companies third parties interested in marketing.”
GB News presenter Patrick Christys said: “Just look at what happened to Nigel Farage and a host of other anti-establishment figures to emerge from the woodwork.
“We’ve seen governments freeze people’s assets if they fight lockdown nonsense. We’ve seen companies like PayPal do the same.
“How long before people freeze their assets for not following the LGBTQ+ agenda? Or if they say the ‘wrong thing’ about mass immigration?
“We are sliding towards a Chinese style social credit system where the good citizens are allowed to accept money and the bad ones are taken away from them. It’s really buying obedience, buying silence, buying obedience, buying… control.”
More than five million adults still rely on cash in the UK and it is used in six billion transactions every year.
However, there is a pressing vested interest in permanently replacing debit and credit cards and other electronic payments.
It’s more expensive for the average Brit in the long run and allows third parties to track people and their spending.

Halligan added: “It’s really affecting people who are unbanked, there’s 10 or 15 per cent of households in the UK, they’re called unbanked, they don’t have the credentials, or means, or ID, or income to guarantee bank account.
“It’s a little old lady with a lot of respect trying to park in her market town and she doesn’t have a smartphone, you have to download a million different apps, you have to be on WiFi.
“So many people especially the elderly or people in a hurry, they end up getting a parking ticket. They’re very willing to pay but you have to do it in the app.”
We call on the Government to introduce legislation committing to protect cash’s legal tender and widely accepted tender status in the UK until at least 2050.
Christys said: “I don’t want to live in a society where you are one word wrong from broke. And dare I say you are neither.
“But this campaign isn’t just about stopping the breathless hands of totalitarian tyranny, it’s also about standing up for the rights of marginalized people.”
