A man and a woman were found dead in a hotel in East London. Police were called to the Premier Inn at Mercury Gardens in Romford just before 1pm on Saturday (July 1) after two people were found unresponsive.
Paramedics and firefighters also rushed to the hotel, but the couple were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said specialist officers were also called after a substance was found at the scene, but they have not disclosed what it was. Their death was deemed unexpected.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 12:43 a.m. on Saturday, July 1 after two people were found unresponsive at a hotel in Mercury Gardens, Romford.
“Officers were present with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Specialist officers were also present due to concerns about substances found at the scene. Death is being treated as unforeseen and further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances.”

Death Still A Mystery After Police Find ‘Substance’
Police are still trying to figure out what happened to a man and a woman who were found dead in a hotel in Romford.
A spokesperson said Specialist Officers were called in after police discovered a substance, causing them concern.
Police have not disclosed what the substance was and whether it might have caused anyone to die.
